Are we alone? To answer this question, we will first try to define "life," discuss the requirements for life to exist, estimate the likelihood that life exists elsewhere, and touch on the Fermi paradox. We will address this age-long question, "are we alone," by following scientific evidence and discussing the likelihood that biology, just like physics and chemistry, might be both universal and common. The format of this colloquium will be highly interactive: you will be encouraged to actively participate in the discussion!

报告人简介： 

Andrej Prša is an astrophysicist and professor at Villanova University whose work bridges cutting-edge research, education, and scientific software development. Specializing in stellar astrophysics, particularly eclipsing binary stars, he combines observational data with computational modeling to uncover the physical properties and evolutionary histories of stars. He is the principal investigator behind the PHOEBE (PHysics Of Eclipsing BinariEs) project, an advanced open-source modeling framework widely used in the astronomy community. He is also the chair of Kepler and TESS EB working groups.
