报告摘要:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Asteroseismology provides unparalleled insights into the internal structure and evolutionary states of stars. When applied to binary systems, it gains an extra edge by combining seismic inference with independent orbital constraints, enabling precise determinations of stellar masses, radii, and ages. Well-detached binaries serve as pristine laboratories where scaling relations can be rigorously tested. Conversely, interacting binaries—through tidal forces, angular momentum exchange, and episodes of mass transfer—can alter pulsation signatures, producing intriguing phenomena such as tidally excited oscillations, underluminous stars, and tidally tilted pulsators. In this talk, we will explore how binary star studies inform asteroseismology and highlight the critical role asteroseismic analysis plays in understanding complex binary systems.
报告人简介:
Dr. Kelly Hambleton (Prša) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Astrophysics and Planetary Science at Villanova University, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Villanova One Sky Center for Astrophysics. She is the primary contact for the Pulsating Star Sub-Group within the Rubin Observatory LSST Transients and Variable Stars Science Collaboration. Her research focuses on pulsating stars, particularly those in binary systems, using them as laboratories to probe stellar interiors, tidal interactions, and evolutionary processes. Dr. Hambleton has led studies on tidally excited oscillations, heartbeat stars, and variable star populations, drawing on data from space-based missions such as Kepler and TESS, as well as upcoming surveys like Rubin LSST and PLATO.
